Thoughts of a New Mom of 2...

Blake is 3 weeks old today and it seems like we have known him our whole lives. He is a very good baby, sleeping longer then Leah ever has or will, eats great, and loves his car seat. He has some fussy times, but what baby doesn't. I put him in his crib last night for bedtime and he did great.

In 3 weeks of being a mom of 2 I have already learned some new things about motherhood.

1. There really is no sleeping when the baby sleeps as there was with Leah. We snoozed all the time, but there is no time for that. Leah is transitioning to one nap per day and needs lots of attention especially since we are mainly indoors these days. And if by chance they both are sleeping at the same time I have 2 options. I can either lay down and take a nap that doesn't feel refreshing because I sleep so hard or run around here like a chicken with her head cut off trying to get things done and or have some time to myself.

2. I spend at least half of my day in the kitchen either cooking meals or cleaning them up. As well as breast pump parts.

3. My house will not be clean for a very long time. Or everything won't be clean at the same time for a long time. If the kitchen is clean the family rooms a mess. If the bathroom is clean Leah's room is a disaster...

4. I did not expect to feel the increase in laundry as I have. Blake likes to pee out of everything which results in multiple outfit changes. My laundry has doubled and I can tell!

5. Getting out of the house is a must for this momma.

6. I think the biggest thing I learned is that getting up early is key. Blake has been eating sometime between 5:30 and 6:30am and after that feed I need to not go back to sleep. I need to get up, shower, get dressed and start the day. That way I have some time before Leah wakes up and not wake up to Leah crying in her bed. Yes, I feel a bit more tired, but so worth it.

7. As for being tired, I'm trying to accept that the dark circles under my eyes are not going anywhere no matter the amount of under eye concealer I can cake on there.

8. I'm anxious for the post partum part of having a baby is over so I can start exercising...I need to sweat. I'm hoping another week or so.

9.  Time with Mark is even more valuable now, I think we are doing a good job of recognizing this and taking the few moments we have and making them worth it

10. This is the new norm and it is taking some adjusting. Sometimes I can't believe I have 2 kids. The next few months will probably be hard, but we will figure it out and get through it together. It's a good thing these kids are cute!

  1. I don't know you and can't even remember how I found your blog but on the off chance you do not know the following I thought I would share. Our second child is a boy and we were going crazy with him peeing through EVERYTHING for the first few weeks until we accidentially discovered that if you point his little part down when diapering it stops.

  2. Sister - I have never had two little tinies at the same time. All I know is even with my age gaps adding a new person is tough. Its lots of transitioning. I flipping hate transitions. You will have this all mastered soon. By the time your like Clover Leaf lady you'll be a pro.
